I Finally Watched The Dream Team Gold Medal Game

In 1992, the summer Olympics were held in Barcelona, Spain. A lot of things happened. The United States got 37 gold medals, and the Unified Team got the most golds, but we’re not going to talk about that. We’re going to talk about the ‘92 USA Olympics Basketball Team, or the Dream Team. The team included greats like Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, and more.

Let’s go over the numbers, the Dream Team are one of the few teams that actually never lost a game in the Olympics. Every game, they scored at least 100 points. The game with the least margin, or the hardest game some say, is the gold game against Croatia in a 32-point margin (117-85). Their highest margin they had was a 68-point margin against Angola (116-48). Chuck Daly, the coach, used 0 timeouts throughout the whole Olympics. The Dream Team’s largest deficit of the tournament was 4 points. Spain jumped to a 4-0 lead during early play. The Dream Team won that game 122-81.

The Dream Team was considered the best Men’s Olympic Basketball Team ever. They showed it, too. Even a college player on the team, Christian Laettner, made exactly 90% of his free throws, the most on the team. Even though we all know that in the conversation of the best basketball player of all time, Jordan’s name is mentioned. At the time, though, Charles Barkley was considered the star player on the Dream Team.
